I'm watching Barack and Michelle Obama vote, live on television. I'm hoping that some of my students are watching this. Bob Schieffer just said that 150 years ago there were 31 million people in this country. 4 million of them were slaves. Today we have our first African-American presidential candidate.
Black voters are turning out in record numbers. They finally really feel that there is a candidate worth showing up for. I'm awestruck to be a part of this moment in American history. Even if you're voting for McCain (this means you, honey) stop and think about what today really means.
